Backstory
The project was developed for Centrale Montemartini in Rome, home to the AAMOD audiovisual archive. The aim was to design a concept book able to translate the weight of an italian director short film into a visual experience, using design not only as a container of content, but as a way to keep complex memories active and present.
Thoughts
We wanted the book to create a subtle visual discomfort, not in an aggressive or accusatory way, but as a tool for attention. The idea was to challenge the perception that certain events belong only to the past, suggesting instead how their echoes can still exist around us, often in forms we are no longer trained to recognise.
Solution
The visual language was built through roughness, contrast, tension, and an intentionally unsettling rhythm. Typography, images, and composition work together to disturb the reading just enough to make the viewer slow down. The result is a book that does not simply explain, but asks to be felt: a quiet, uncomfortable reminder of memory, awareness, and responsibility.

The Visual Approach

The book was designed to let the images speak first. The editorial approach reduces typography and layout to the essentials, allowing the visual content to take up almost the entire space, while the text works simply as a guide and caption.

/Conceptual Design

The Past, The future, and the Price of it.

The book features experimental visuals designed to convey a sense of discomfort, weight, and tension on a perceptual level. Different printing techniques were used to intensify this feeling, portraying the harshness and suffering caused by violence.
